SLC Weekend Guide: Edition 2

For those of you who missed our first Weekend Guide, we take a look at a few things happening in Salt Lake City. Edition 2 is a snapshot of the weekend of July 24th. This weekend guide is particularly exciting because it is being written in anticipation of one of my best friends, Kendall and his wife, coming into town. The last time I saw these two lovely people, it was as best man at their wedding!

Friday – July 24th (It’s Pioneer Day!)

Noon / Taco Lunch / Blue Poblano – Is Taco Lunch an official event? No. Should it be? Absolutely! And yes, we are starting our weekend a little early today, but honestly go and get the Al Pastor taco at Blue Poblano and you will completely understand why we want this to become an official Friday occurrence. Pork not your thing, try the carnitas instead…you’ll thank us.

3pm – 5pm / Pie and Beer Day / Beer Bar – In this very special celebration of Pioneer Day (which for many is known as Pie and Beer Day), some of our favorite bakeries, including Eva’s Boulangerie and Tulie’s, and local brewers have gotten together to share some pairings that are sure to make everyone happy. The $20 pass gets you 5 slices of pie.

6pm – 10pm / Pie and Beer Day SPECIAL ADDITION / Granary Row – So I am always game to double down on events for a special occasion. Granary Row has announced some fun happenings for Pie and Beer Day as well! We would be remiss if we didn’t let you in on this little secret as well.

9pm / Real Salt Lake / Rio Tinto Stadium – We haven’t been to any RSL games yet, but no better time than the present! Kickoff this weekend is at 9pm against Kansas City. It may be time to buy a Real Jersey and act a little more like a native Salt Laker. I have been told the RSL / Kansas City rivalry is a big one!

Saturday – July 25th

10am / Doughnut Falls Hike / Big Cottonwood Canyon – What is a trip to SLC without a hike or two? One of our favorites for visitors is Doughnut Falls. A pretty easy trek to the top and a really awesome waterfall to break up the out and back.

Noon – 5pm / SLC Unofficial Brewery Tour / SLC – So, Salt Lake does not have an official brewery tour, but considering Kendall is an avid beer drinker, we thought we would create an unofficial jaunt around town. So who is on the list? We thought we would start south at Bohemian, then make our way up to Shades of Pale, Epic Brewing, Desert Edge, Red Rock, and finish up at Uinta Brewing. Be on the lookout for a full post after we make our rounds!

6pm – 9pm / Cool Air Concert Series / Snowbird – Did we mention yet that Salt Lake is a mecca for free music? Tonight up at Snowbird Morgan Snow and The Whiskey Gentry are playing a set. Bring a lawn chair and a cooler and sit back for some great tunes.

Sunday – July 26th

10am / Jordanelle Reservoir / Just East of Park City – This Sunday is getting kicked off early! But for good reason. We have heard a lot about Jordanelle Reservoir, and without an ocean nearby, we thought we would find the next best thing. It sounds like there is a lot to get in to, especially if you are interested in renting a boat or SUP from Jordanelle Rentals.

3pm / Park City Brewery / Park City – So all of us are proudly NC State graduates. One weekend when me and Alex were up in Park City, we went by PC Brewing just to check it out. Little did we know, one of the owners was a Wolfpack grad as well! Needless to say, we figure this has to be a stop on our Park City tour.
