SLC Weekend Guide: Edition 4

Another week, another weekend guide…and a day early! Mainly because there is a concert tonight at Urban Lounge that we don’t want you to miss. Yea, that’s right, everybody get excited!

Thursday – Aug 20

8pm – 11pm / Mimi Knowles / Urban Lounge – So, I am always game for a free concert, and this Thursday Mimi Knowles is playing a little set at Urban. It is what I would classify as a mixture of rap and R&B. It sounds like a pretty nice way to kick this weekend off early if you are downtown.

Friday – Aug 21st

6pm – 10pm / Granary District 5th Annual Block Party / Granary Row – Beer Garden, Bouncey House, Food Trucks…need we say more? Probably not, but we are going to. On top of this, there is also square dancing, so yea, get on out there.

6pm / SLC Indiewalk / Mod-a-Go-Go – If you are downtown already, go take a look at this local, all entry, fashion show. All designers are encouraged to participate and there are very few rules to get in. The goal is to encourage local fashion designers. Don’t worry, there are also vendors present so you can buy local too!

Saturday – Aug 22nd

8am- 5:30pm / Supercar Grand Prix of Utah / Miller Motorsports Park – I will be honest, when I first moved to Utah, I didn’t think there would be much going on. How wrong I was! Each weekend proves to me more fun than the last. For example, this event shouldn’t be a hard sell. Fast, Foreign cars race around our local track. You get to go watch a few races and drool over which one you wish you had in your garage.

12pm – 6:30pm / Oktoberfest / Snowbird – So October isn’t quite here yet, but its never too early to start. Snowbird is kind enough to hold Oktoberfest from now until then, so we can pack in as much beer drinking and brat eating as possible.

8pm / Real Salt Lake v Seattle / Rio Tinto Stadium – The RSL season may be coming to an end, but there are at least a few more games to catch before its all over. They play Seattle this weekend, so go out and proudly wear your red, blue, and gold.

Sunday – Aug 23rd

9:30am / Sunday Brunch / Alta Lodge – This has been going on for a few weekends now, but we are just getting a chance to get up to Alta for the Sunday Brunch buffet. $25 will get you over 40 pre-made items, a few made to order items, and live acoustic jazz. If there was an event made for me and Ron Burgundy, this would be it.

8am- 2:30pm / Supercar Grand Prix of Utah / Miller Motorsports Park – Didn’t catch any of the racing on Saturday? Don’t worry, you have a chance to catch a few more races on Sunday! Get out to the track and check it out!

10am – 2pm / 9th West Farmers Market / 1000 S 900 W – Assuming we don’t make it to Pioneer Park for the big Farmer’s Market on Saturday, the 9th West Market will be our make up. We haven’t been to this yet either, so we are excited to check out some potentially new local vendors.

The ALL NEW Honorable Mentions:

Aug 21 5pm – Aug 23 8pm / Ogden Valley Roots and Blues Festival / North Fork Park – We are not sure how this event will be, but it looks great, and the lineup sounds awesome. You’ll have to make your way down to Ogden for it, but could be some good jams.

Other recurring events not to forget:

10am / Park Silly Market / Main St. Park City

12:30pm – 5pm / Blues, Brew, and BBQ / Snowbasin
